Roman,> Any IC-base RIAA corrector should cost $30, with no expiations. Now now.... My "Analogue Addicts Phono Stage" is Op-Amp based and requires at current OEM bugetary pricing in 1000pc lots of $12.25 each. Add Tinfoil & Polystyrene Capacito...

It might not be necessarily the new wire. With analog there are other billion reasons why it might not sound as it should. Still, I personally can’t stay listening “new” wire with MC cartridges. If you recently futzed with the arm wire then you...
I never had a lot of trouble with high transconductance tubes. I use the EC8020 a lot.
Stefano, you might look into this EC8020. I never seen it but just looked into the datasheet and it looks very interest...

I thought of the AMR equalization curve options as I listened to a London FFRR LP (Kubelik/VPO/New World) today using my new technique to optimize stylus tracking. The FFRRs are well known to have some extra LF, all right, but with optimum VTA this re...

Who has had success with active amplification of very low level signals (like LO MC output), apart from Boulder 2008 and super-expensive lab-type equipment? It seems like the safest path (that's still reasonably affordable) for LO MC lift-off is a (pa...
Romy,
I might be confused with the passive and active, but from my understanding you prefer your active 834PT to the passive RC network and passive LCR networks. You also prefer the passive LCR to the passive RC. So 834PT&...

Paul, I do not think that “before or after RIAA losses” requirement has any merit as no matter what kind type RIAA filter is being used it always will lose around 20dB. I do not think also that there is a “safest path” or “reasonably affordable”....
Romy, one thing that interest me is you use an active RIAA and the Allnic is passive circuit if I understood things?
Perrew,
Among the none-commercial, home-made correctors here is my evolution of phonostages.

Yes, I know, Antonio, thanks. There are a lot of IC-based phonostages out there. I have no technical reasons to say that they should be bad but unfortunately they sound kind of “identically bad”. You see no one make them to sound in a “tailored”, def...

Hi Romy,I am new to your site. I have read some of your postings (including other sites) with much gusto. For the digital LP recording, I am (was) tempted to do the same, but given the fact that I have absolutely no personal experience in digital audi...

Too hot to expect the best sound today, and besides I have gotten my morbid curiousity worked up about the recording/playback curves, so I fished out a few LPs mostly to hear/see how they sound with respect to the "shape" of their sound, aspects of w...
Hold on, are you saying that manufacturers of phonostages who claim that they run RIAA curve with precision of 0.1db are full of shit? Ok, take the Fifths and do not answer this question.
There is nothing wrong with ...

N-set, the usual way of dialing in RIAA is the anti-RIAA curve, trying for null. This might be from any source with appropriate output voltage/impedance fed to the corrector input. The obvious problem with the LP is that it depends on the arm and c...

Allo Romy, Air core caps? Good man! Are they for trimming or the primary RIAA? The way I see RIAA equalisation, there must be some optimum tradeoff between high R and low C (low value caps are always nice) and low R high C. Why do we want low R? A f...

Ah, the current source!! Serge, you must be right. Ironically I did hear about this method of extracting cartridge signal by Dynavector when I used tier 507 arms but I forgot about it. If am not mistaken the Dynavector is not a phonostage by just vol...

I made an experiment a few weeks ago. I took 5 cartridges that I know very well and that have thier distinctive “signature” sound signatures. I loaded my corrector into my 49K 1/12Octave, 0.25dB resolution Real-Time Spectral Analyzer and ran the inve...

I have read about but not heard the transformer RIAAs and the "No R" version (or was it "no C"?), and I have seen some fairly ingenious ways to try to keep impedance at a constant 600 Ohms. But the 10k does pique my interest, because now w...

Perhaps if you build another phono corrector you could play your TT through that, then through the inverse RIAA then through the EoL corrector then the linestage & power amps etc.
Will you be listening to all of your line level sources via ...
Interesting test you have conducted. Were the responses mostly unflat near the frequency extremes or was there variations even in the midrange? The reason I ask is because if you look at most of the published curve...

Here are some commentaries regarding my “End of Life" Phonostage.
The name of this phonostage derives from many factors. I am forty, winch it more or less a half live and in the first half I was playing a lot with different audio toys. The last 10 y...

Sine I read about the new Orion phonostage I was thinking about the whole story behind it. The whole Constellation Audio as the company that started 2-3 years back strike me as some kind of combined efforts of a group of dealer and distributors...

Well, I always thought that I have an open mind and I would not mind to try it. Unfortunately I do not do SS as I afraid of it electrically…

Hello Coops,
Can you explain more why the Allnic 1500 is the best phono you have heard, and why was it superior to the Cole LCR ?
What is the superiority of LCR-RIAA phonostages , besides having excellent RIAA correction curves ? What about the...

Hm, I took the anti-RIAA signal converted and run CD player into the phonostage. The RIAA curve was fine and the effect of the HF volume and frequency-depended quantization did not expose itself. So, it looks like the phonostage is not a problem afte...
